 New Health Care System For West MichiganSaint Mary's Health Care adjacent to Medical Mile and Mercy Health Partners are poised to merge into a new entity called Mercy Health. The decision was made following discussions among the founding hospital systems in view of a market research that indicated the existence of a unique opportunity. The intention of the merger is to establish a multi-location health care system in West Michigan that will provide more services, better communication with the patients and healthcare providers and easier access to Grand Rapids Doctors, especially specialists. The Mercy Health system will encompass all hospitals, outpatient clinical service sites, and physician network locations among Grand Rapids Doctors, serving the metro area and the lakeshore. Saint Mary's Health Care and Mercy Health Partners are owned by the Catholic system Trinity Health that is based in Novi, Michigan. Their plan is to make the new Mercy Health brand available to all the Trinity Institutions in West Michigan in the next 12 to 24 months. The new entity will encompass about 900 beds, spread over four hospitals and two physician networks. Mercy Hospital, Cadillac and Mercy Hospital, Grayling are expected to join the Mercy Health system later in the year. Other Trinity hospitals will join the new entity in due course. A committee consisting of board members and physicians from each organization will work to create a stronger alignment strategy by this fall. The identity of each organization in terms of culture, staffs, management structure and commitment to local communities will be retained. The acknowledgement of the regional system will be done by the member organizations by displaying the tag “A Member of Mercy Health”. The name Mercy Health for the merged entity was decided keeping in mind the shared history of name Mercy in all institutions, connoting a culture focused on providing health care to all.
