The City Planning Commission is the city's main planner for the Medica Mile. Over the past years, the Planning Commission has developed detail maps and plans for Michigan Ave (Medical Mile).
Following is the Commission's basic information
Authority
City Code Sec. 5.291 et. seq. MCLA 125.33
Purpose
The Commission performs such functions as preparing and adopting a plan for the physical development of the City. The Commission implements the plan through administration of the City's zoning and subdivision codes, and recommends amendments to the zoning ordinance to the City Commission. The Planning Commission may appoint employees necessary to accomplish its work. The employees are subject to the same provisions governing other City employees. The Planning Commission may also contract with City planners, engineers, architects, and other consultants for services.
Membership
The Commission consists of nine members who represent different professions and occupations and provide a wide range of citizen interests in land development issues. Members may hold no other municipal office except one member may serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Appointment
Commission members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Commission on the first Monday in January.
Term
Each member's term is for three years. Membership is subject to the Service Limitation Policy.
Meetings
The Commission meets at the Develoment Center, 1120 Monroe Ave., N.W. at 1:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. 2009 Meeting Schedule. Meeting minutes and agendas.
