Late fall bloomers: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Garden harvest meals continue as we pick from the late planting of beans and the second harvest of raspberries. Baked apples and sweet winter pears fill the refrigerator. Squash is getting stashed in the basement along with the not-quite-ripe tomatoes. The wind is blowing, the harvest moon has come and gone; winter is coming. It is time to hunker down and prepare for Michigan winter. But first enjoy Michigan’s beautiful fall: brisk winds whip the leaves around and the sunshine can nearly blind us as it reflects off the colorful leaves of bronze, gold, burgundy and orange. In our hurried lives, do find time to pick a few winter pears and take a walk; in a short time we will be shoveling snow. Stew simmers in the crockpot, so-o-o very good for the body, all these vegetables containing vitamins, fiber, manganese and folic acid for healthy cells.
