Apparently the glucose test strips produce inaccurate results because they do not absorb enough blood. This recall does not pertain to Abbott Diabetes Care additional products. As many as 359 million test strips could fall under this FDA mandated recall. Read more for the brand names.Now these are the brand names of the recalled tests strips: ReliOn Ultima; Optium; OptiumEZ; Medisense Optium; Precision Xtra; Precision Xceed Pro. Sold online, in stores, and used in health care centers, the glucose strips were manufactured between January and September, 2010. “FDA and Abbott are reviewing the cause of the manufacturing defect to avoid this problem in the future. Patients with diabetes should be aware of the recalled glucose test strips and take steps to prevent them from affecting their health,” said Alberto Gutierrez, Ph.D., director for the Office of In Vitro Diagnostics in FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.
